Ostrawa: business in the face of challenges
The XXX Business Meeting of the Czech Republic, Poland and
Slovakia is taking place in Ostrawa today. Before noon there was a conference
in the New City Hall and in the afternoon loose business talks in the gardens
of the Polish Consulate General. The Czech-Polish Chamber of Commerce, which is
the main organizer of the annual Business Meeting, is celebrating its 25th
anniversary this year.
130 years ago, explosion in Karwina killed 235 people
Today, June 14, marks exactly 130 years since the biggest
mining disaster in the Karwina basin. Its scale was unprecedented – as many as
235 people died, the miners working below and the rescuers who rushed to their
aid. A memorial ceremony is planned for Saturday, June 15, at the Church of St.
Peter of Alcantara, organized by the "Old Karwina " association.
Cieszyn/Cz. Cieszyn: the Festival of the Three Brothers
launched
The 32nd edition of the Festival of the Three Brothers
begins today in Cieszyn and Czeski Cieszyn. The three-day party will be
inaugurated by a meeting of residents and authorities of both cities on the
Friendship Bridge at 5 pm (the processions will set off at 4:45 pm from the
town hall in Cieszyn and at 4:50 pm from ČSA Square in Český Těšín, respectively).
Athletics ME: Poles on the last day without a medal. Czechs
with gold
Drama befell two Polish relay teams on the final day of the
athletics European Championships in Rome. First, the ladies' 4x100m final run
was not completed, followed by a technical error that buried any chance of a
good result for the men's relay over the same sprint distance. Wednesday, on
the other hand, turned out to be gold for the Czechs, thanks to the triumph of
javelin athlete Jakub Vadlejch (88.65m).
