100 YEARS AGO, ANDRZEJ WAJDA WAS BORN
Wajda was Poland, just as Bergman was Sweden, said German director Volker Schlöndorff. Andrzej Wajda is one of the most outstanding filmmakers in the history of world cinema. Winner of an Oscar for lifetime achievement and the Palme d'Or at Cannes for Man of Iron, he would have celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday.

QUALIFYING ROUNDS FOR THE CHILDREN'S SONG FESTIVAL ARE STARTING
The Children's Song Festival for Polish primary school students in Zaolzie, organized every two years, will have its 19th edition this year. Next week, the preliminaries will take place at the "Strzelnica” Cultural Center in Český Těšín. The winners will perform in the final, which is scheduled for May 16 at the Petr Bezruč Cultural Center in Havířov.

On Thursday evening, we learned the complete list of semifinalists for the MOL Cup. The Karviná team joined the ranks of cup surprises, defeating the favored Viktoria Plzeň 3-0 in spectacular fashion. "For Karviná, advancing to the semifinals of the MOL Cup is a historic success," said Karviná's happy coach, Marek Jarolím.
