THEY
RETURNED FROM NEW YORK, FROM THE MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
Three
students from the J. Słowacki Polish Junior High School in Czeski Cieszyn
returned from a week-long stay in New York. Maria Wania, Tiffany Sajdok, and
Mateo Rucki spent five days participating in Model United Nations—a simulation
of United Nations proceedings designed for high school and college students.
They spent the next two days exploring the American metropolis.
THE FIRST
STAGE OF THE RENOVATION IS COMPLETE, AND THE NEXT STAGE WILL BEGIN
The local
branch of the Polish Cultural and Educational Association in Milikowo-Centrum
has completed the first stage of a comprehensive renovation of its
headquarters, largely funded by the Polish government. It intends to begin the
next stage this year.
OSTRAVA
BOOK FESTIVAL WITH DANUTA CHLUP
The 7th
Book Festival will be held from Friday to Saturday at the Czarna Łąka
exhibition grounds in Ostrava. Among the invited authors is Danuta Chlup, a
journalist for Głos and a writer of novels in Polish and Czech.

TOMORROW IN THE SEMIFINALS
The Czech
Republic's ice hockey team struggled to fulfill its role as favorite in
Tuesday's Olympic quarterfinal match in Milan. The Czechs defeated Denmark 3-2,
but they had a scare, especially at the end of the game, fending off their
opponents' attacks during a power play.
