19-YEAR-OLD RECEIVED A REVOLUTIONARY DEFIBRILLATOR
A new
generation of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators protects patients from
sudden cardiac death without requiring doctors to insert electrodes into the
heart or blood vessels. The AGEL Hospital in Třinec-Podlesí is the first
facility in Moravia and Silesia—and one of the first in the Czech Republic—to
use this groundbreaking technology.
OSTRAVA:
RENOVATION OF THE SKYSCRAPER DESIGNED BY EVA JIŘIČNÁ HAS BEGUN
Renovation
work has begun in Ostrava on a high-rise building constructed in the 1960s. The
modern renovation is being carried out according to a design by the famous
Czech architect Eva Jiřičná. The building will be raised by two stories and,
upon completion, will stand 72 meters tall.
A "KOLYBA”
HAS BEEN BUILT ON GIROWA STREET! AND EVERYONE IS DELIGHTED WITH IT
Enthusiasts
and community activists from Piosek and the surrounding area have achieved
their goal—they’ve built a "kolyba” on Girowa! On Saturday, August 8, a Mass
was celebrated there, after which it was consecrated; later, to the sounds of
folk bands and trumpets, the cracking of whips, and the "łowiynziok” dance, it
was officially unveiled to the general public.

ZAOLZIE TO ASSISI, TO ST. FRANCIS, WHO RENEWED THE CHURCH
A group of
22 pilgrims from Zaolzie traveled to Assisi at the end of June. They set out by
plane, by car, and some even on foot (for part of the journey). The trip was
organized by the Miriam Foundation under the leadership of Marcela Cechlowa and
her husband, Marian. This article is a follow-up to that trip.
CHANCE
LEAGUE: BANÍK OSTRAVA LOSES IN HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ
The Baník
Ostrava soccer team suffered its second consecutive loss in the top division.
In Sunday’s away match of the 3rd round of the Chance League, Roman Skuhravy’s
team lost 1–2 to Hradec Králové. Ostrava played with ten men starting in the
43rd minute after defender Yevgeniy Skyba was sent off for a foul confirmed by
the video assistant referee (VAR) system.
